Regan's week

Ladies and Gentleman, an incredibly exciting new experience in the Rath household has taken place. Introducing.... a baby who sleeps through the night!!! Yes, that's right. Regan has finally started to sleep through the night. Sure, we've had our glitches a couple of times, but we just let her cry it out and she's usually asleep again within a few minutes. She's even started to not cry when we lay her down for her nap. She had just woken up from her nap when I took this picture. She was having a spit-upish day, so I finally gave up on changing her clothes and just let her be naked with a diaper and socks on.
This was week 1 of Eric's two straight weeks of gigs. In order to feel somewhat close to him, I took Regan to the dress rehearsal of The Nutcracker on Thursday night. It was really good, despite our daughter making spitting sounds for the last half of it. I wanted a picture of her with a ballerina, and this was the only non-anorexic looking one I could find. I'm not even kidding. Sorry it's blurry, but I accidentally had the camera on the wrong setting. Grr.
Every day when Eric comes home from work, he takes Regan back to our bedroom with him while he changes clothes and that's his time to talk to her and mess around with her. I was lucky enough yesterday to take this picture and I think it is so precious! Regan likes it when we give her eskimo kisses, so that's what Eric was doing. She's so cute because she gets real still and has the sweetest look on her face. My heart gets all bubbly looking at the love on each of their faces.
Regan is about thisclose to crawling. She does what we call her sea lion crawl because she flops her legs behind her and pulls herself along with her hands. She's really starting to get where she wants to go, too. Yesterday when I was getting ready I put her in the middle of the living room with some toys and I heard her fussing and when I went in to check on her, she had gotten all the way to the hallway!
This is Regan checking Tooter out this morning. We're dog-sitting for the day while Granny and Papa went to Childress. Regan thinks Tooter is pretty interesting. She even let the dog lick her in the face! She loves to watch her tail wag but isn't too interested in touching her... yet.

Snow Day with Daddy!

Last Thursday when we woke up, there was 7.5 inches of snow! Because of all the snow, Eric didn't have to go to school, so we had a very fun day.

After breakfast Regan was sitting on the floor playing and Eric was working on his computer and he kept playing peek-a-boo with her. That's her favorite game to play ever. It was hilarious!

Eric likes to put Regan's binky in his mouth and then she leans over him and puts it in her mouth and pulls it out of his. She thinks it's so funny. She kept making Eric laugh and she was laying on his tummy and whenever he would laugh, she would bounce -- it was pretty funny to watch!

I wish every day could be a snow day with Daddy!

Regan's First Thanksgiving

"How can you not cook dinner? This is Emma's first Thanksgiving! It's not? When was she born?" (That is for James)

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving in Tulsa with the Rath clan. It started out with a trip to the doctor for Regan, Eric and I. We all had the snots, so Richard called a doctor in their church who "worked us in". We mostly had viruses, but he gave Eric some cough medicine and me an antibiotic for my ear. We're feeling mostly better, but still have the sniffles.

Karen and the girls came over Wednesday morning before Eric got up (and before we went to the doctor). Karen was telling them that they were going to go home for a nap and they would be back for supper. Both girls asked if Uncle Eric would be awake by supper time. It was pretty cute! We saw them again at Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. It's always great to see them, even though it just reminds us how much of the twins growing up we're missing!

My camera batteries died Thanksgiving day and no one was in the mood to go to the store for more, so I don't have a lot of pictures, but here are a few. This is Regan in her "baby's first thanksgiving" onesie. She's pretty cute, even if she was drugged up!
Here are the three girls. Have you ever tried to get a 6 month old and twin 2-year olds to all look at the camera and smile at the same time!? Regan kept trying to roll over on the twins, so even though she looks like Elvis, this is as good as it gets! Lindsey is on the left and Leah is on the right.
And Regan and Daddy playing with the toys at Grammy's house. Most of the toys Nancy has are from Eric and Bill's childhood. It's pretty neat to watch our daughter play with toys that her dad used to play with!
Here she is taking a bath in Grammy's sink because she kept sliding all around in the big girl bathtub. She did pretty good, even though she kept trying to gnaw on counter!
And the biggest news currently is that on the very long trip home (have you ever driven 375 miles with a sick 6 month old!?) Eric and I decided that Regan is ready to start eating cereal. If you know anything about how paranoid of a mother I am, you know this is a major step for me to take! She did pretty good, although she mostly spits it back out, as is evidenced by her face! We're hoping all those old wives tales (wise tales, Marcia and Beth?) are true and that she'll sleep through the night now that her belly is full.

And just FYI, I found out today that Emmitt Smith has a daughter named Regan!! This child was meant to love the Cowboys!

Hudson comes and Emmitt wins!!

Sorry it's been so long since I last updated. Last week Regan and I went to visit my family in Kansas while Eric was gone at a convention and state marching contest. He had the camera, so there weren't any pictures to post. But now we're back and with lots of news!!

First off, the absolute most exciting part of our week was watching the Dancing with the Stars finale when Emmitt won!! This was Regan's reaction to my jumping around and screaming. She's makes the funniest faces.
The night before we came home (which would've been last Saturday) Regan started getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth. She's been working on perfecting that art this week and is getting to where she stays on her hands and knees quite awhile before she finally falls down. It's pretty comical to watch her try to figure out how to get to her toys.
The other exciting part of this week has been that Hudson has started coming over for 3 hours every day now that Aunt Kristen is back at work. We've been having a lot of fun with him, even though our week hasn't been completely accident free.

This picture was taken about 20 seconds before Regan whacked Hudson in the face with her toy. The next day, I was checking to see if Hudson's diaper was wet. I checked by doing the very same thing I do with Regan... I squeezed the diaper. Hudson, in no uncertain terms, let me know that checking a boy's diaper should be done differently than when checking a girl's diaper. Other than those two incidents, we've had a great first week!
Hudson likes to lay and look at things, so one day I put him under Regan's play gym so he could look at the toys. I sat Regan at the other end so she could play with the ball, and they played (or in Hudson's case, looked) like that for about 15 minutes. It was so cute!
One of the biggest adjustments to having Hudson has been that he is not a pacifier baby like Regan. He likes to suck on one, but he can't quite figure out the system, so in order to make him happy, you have to hold the pacifier in his mouth the whole time. (Luckily after a few minutes, he usually gives up!) Anyway, this picture is mostly for James and Kristen because I actually got Hudson to suck on his pacifier all by himself for about 5 minutes! I was so proud of myself. :)

Chief Regan

Here are the Halloween pictures... finally! Blogger was messing up and wouldn't let me post anything, so I hope this works. Regan was a little Indian for Halloween. She looked so cute! We went to our church's festival and stayed for about 15 minutes and then went over to see GiGi and Papa Sammie.
I thought this was a pretty good one of her and me. She's so good at smiling for the camera, but because it flashes so many times to get the red eye out, she's usually annoyed by the time the picture actually takes, so anything we get that resembles a smile we're pretty excited about!
The day before Halloweeen, Kristen and I took the babies to a pumpkin patch and took their pictures. It was a lot of fun and we got some pretty good ones too! Regan was only interested in eating the hay, so we had to take her pictures really fast.

Hudson was a little bear. Here's Chief Regan looking out over her tribe.
This is my favorite one, mostly because it shows her little rolls on her legs!! How stinking adorable is she!?!

New Adventures of Regan

Just to add a little something different, I thought maybe I'd let Regan narrate this blog. (Oh my word, I've turned into one of those moms...)

Well, let's see. Here I am this morning taking a bath in the baby bathtub because the big girl bathtub is broken right now. When I woke up this morning, my diaper had leaked all over my pajamas and sheets, and even though we were already running late, Momma had to give me a bath because I was so stinky! Daddy whipped out the camera and here I am showing off. Do you like my shampoo mohawk?
Here's a picture of Papa. He was crawling around under the house trying to fix the big girl bathtub. He didn't. I even think I heard someone say that he broke it just a little bit more. The plumbers are coming tomorrow. Daddy told me to look out for their cracks. I wonder what that means?
Oh, this was fun. I was rolling around on the floor playing with my blanket, and somehow I managed to pull it over my face and when Momma saw it she said, "Peek a boo" and I started laughing because it was so funny!
Yep, I'm pretty much hot stuff. I learned how to sit on my own. I'm not perfect all the time and sometimes I cry when I fall over onto my face, but I'm getting better! I look a little bit crazy in this picture because Momma had just given me some medicine to help me feel better. I was getting my first tooth and it really hurt! It's all in and no, I have not bitten Momma yet. Why does everyone ask that? I'm starting to work on my second tooth now.
Here I am helping Momma bake some cookies. She said that I was a little bit too young to be eating cookie dough, though. I think she just didn't want to share.
Oh yeah, this is a good one. I was taking a nap with Fabio, my naptime buddy. He's so soft and fuzzy and he's very nice to hold on to and cuddle with when Momma lays me down in my crib. I love Fabio.

That's all the pictures!

Painting!!

A couple weekends ago my parents came down to "visit". I had devised a plan to have them come down and help me paint the bedrooms in our house. Eric hates to paint, so I wanted to do it as a surprise for him while he was away at a marching contest. The plan was to get all three rooms done, but alas, we only had time for 1 1/2. Then this past weekend, Eric's folks came to visit and he and his dad spent the better part of this past Saturday finishing the second room my parents and I had started and then they painted Regan's room.

Since my sisters keep bugging me to post pictures of the new rooms, here they are. Although I realize the majority of you could really care less! :)

Here is sweet baby Regan showing off her new pink room. This color has a story to go along with it and I'm going to tell you because even though the majority of you could care less, you're obviously still reading.

In March before Regan was born, my parents came down and Dad and Eric spent the whole weekend painting the nursery. I had two colors picked out, and while I liked the end result, it was nothing like I had planned. I wanted a sage green and a cream color, but instead it turned out almost mint green and tan. We were still okay with the colors though, because our little boy would have lots of blue to match the colors and everything would work out okay.

Enter Regan. A girl.

So in June, I spent quite a few days picking out paint samples and finding the perfect pink color to match her bed set. And I've been waiting for 4 months now to paint her room. So this weekend, my precious husband (who is going to shoot me when he finds out I called him precious) and his dad painted it the perfect pink.

Which turned out looking like somebody had spilled a bottle of Pepto Bismol all over the walls. Seriously, it was awful. I cried. A lot. But we had no more money to get a different color, and as I belive I've already mentioned, my husband hates to paint, so getting him to do the nursery for a third time is out of the question!

So for the time being, we're adjusting to the paint, which actually does look better with the blinds back on the windows. Fear not, though, because we e-mailed our story to Rachael Ray (her website was asking for home remodeling disasters) and we're hoping and praying that she will respond before Regan's Pepto Bismol room gives us even more heartburn and indegestion than we already have!

And here is the guest room which used to be white with maroon trim. I kid you not. Jeremy was a huge fan of whichever Texas team has black and maroon as their colors (A&M?), and his mom allowed him to pain the trim maroon and then he had black curtains. Which apparently was a compromise because he wanted maroon walls and black trim. Of all the rooms, I think this one turned out to be my favorite.

And this is our room. Yes, we rearranged. Notice how we still have nothing on the walls. Seriously, though, it tooks us a year and a half just to paint the rooms, how quick do you expect us to move!?!

Then end. No it's not. I found a picture of the nursery after the guys painted it in March, so now you know what it looked like before!

Last week

Here are a few more pictures from last week. Travis the Cheater took this one of us on the last night of camp. Doesn't Regan look so ornery in it!?
Here she is hanging out with Dad's baseball cap on. How stinking cute is she!?
After we left family camp, we drove up to Elkhart because my sister and her two kids were visiting, and Eric had yet to meet Kyle, so we stopped by there for a visit. Here are the two babies in their car seats with their matching pacifiers. Regan looked like she was going to eat Kyle!
Here's Aubrey being Aubrey. :) We took pizza out to Papa's work and she got into the cabinet where he keeps his safety gear. She's such a goofball and oh my word, that kid is hilarious! I don't think anyone can make me laugh as much as Aubrey can. She's so funny! And yes, her name tag says "I make stuff up" courtesy of Uncle Eric. If any phrase fits Aubrey, that would definitely be it!

Family Camp

This past weekend we spent up at El Porvenir Christian Camp with our church family. It was such a relaxing, peaceful weekend. We got up there Friday evening in the middle of a blackout; we had to unload our car by the light of our cell phones! I'm pretty sure I've never been in the dark quite like that! Anyway, here are just a few of the many pictures we took. This is the chapel where Eric and I first met.

Here's Regan and her friend, Matt Thurston. She was acting a bit camera shy.
And a storm rolling in....
And Caitlin Shaffer, who is without a doubt, the best babysitter anyone could ask for! All weekend long wherever Regan was, there was Caitlin holding her! It was actually nice to not have to constantly watch out for what Regan was putting in her mouth because Caitlin was always there to do that!

And our other favorite babysitters, Travis and Kayla. We had a lot of fun playing Phase 10 with them and a few others the last night. Or not. Eric and Travis were caught cheating and ruined the whole game for the rest of us because they're bad losers. Big brown...
